  I called Liberty because they left a flyer on my door for $20 off. I spoke to the manager (who's name I believe was Amy) and told her how I had went to H&R block for many years, then I actually sat down and figured up how much they charge me, and went last year with Jackson Hewitt, who also charged me a lot. This is not the EZ form but still just the standard 1040 with standard deductions. She said she would, to get me to give the new office a chance, offer me the maximum which was $50 off. I said ok. While I was there, the guy doing my taxes could not get one of his "screens" to process and she had to come over and help. A few minutes later he couldn't get the forms to print. I asked if he checked the paper...and that was it. I guess she felt embarrassed, so she offered (without my asking) to double the discount to $100 off! I was really happy! Well I got a message about 2 weeks later that there was a mistake on my taxes. She explained that is was no big deal and was because of something to do with the tax rebate last year. My taxes came back, and I looked at the difference between what I was getting back and what was actually deposited and it was close to $400!!!! This is for the strait 1040 with standard deductions! I called her and explained that though I felt like I got good service, that the value was very disappointing. She said she would call "the owner" and see if there was anything she could do. Another week goes by and I hear nothing, so I called her back. She told me she forgot, she apologized, and said she would call right away. She called me back later and said the owner would authorize her to refund me the amount of difference between last year's tax bill and this one. I had to find it, and I'd moved since then. I looked over the weekend and could not find it. She offered a $50 refund which I accepted. Still, they were supposed to beat the competitor by $100 and I found out they charge the same or MORE. I felt ripped off. I came in the next day and when I got in to the office I could not find anybody. I could hear people talking (and as a matter of fact, I heard them swearing and dropping a couple F-bombs!) and finally one woman came out to leave and yelled back "you've got somebody out here waiting for you!" She came out and saw it was me, and came back with $50 cash. That made me feel a little odd that it wasn't a check--like it was supposed to be off the record. I started thinking about the notes of unprofessionalism I'd observed...starting with the offer of "maximum" $50 off then changing it to a "new maximum" of $100... then the paper issue and the poorly trained data entry guy...the bad language, and...lastly--though I hate to mention this because it was not bothering to me at all, I could see where some folks could be put off by the manager's choice of dress--she always wore a very low-cut v-neck shirt when I saw her...like I said, not that I found it offensive because she was not a bad looking woman, but some people would be offended. Then finally paying me in $50 cash--it just made me feel like she had just taken it out of her purse. I don't know, you will have to make your own decision, but I wanted to share my opinion and experience. Next year I will probably go the tax-software route.
